Both Sox Do Battle on South Side

With the Tigers losing Thursday night to the Angels, the White Sox find themselves just 3 games back of first place. After taking 2 of 3 from the Tigers in the previous series, the White Sox look to take on the other colored Sox from the AL East in a three game series starting Friday.

I feel surprisingly optimistic about this three game series. Now, some would say that feeing optimistic is something every White Sox fan should feel when they face the Red Sox as they have swept Boston in Boston already once this year, and have fared pretty well against them over the past few years. But with a team that can put up runs the way the 2011 Red Sox can, any series with them is always scary. Looking over the 3 games though, I do like the pitching match-ups to favor the Sox from Chicago a little bit over the ones who reside in Boston.

Jackson and Teahen On The Way Out, De Aza On The Way Up

Kenny Williams made the first big move of the 2011 season on Wednesday afternoon with a 4 player deal involving the Toronto Blue Jays. The trade sent Edwin Jackson and Mark Teahen to Toronto in exchange for relief pitcher Jason Frasor and minor league pitcher Zach Stewart.

Many people were wondering if a move was coming soon when, last night, Alejandro De Aza was pulled in the middle of a AAA game and he was not injured. The immediate speculation was that he was going to be called up to the big league club, but there was no corresponding move made.

Peavy Hitting A Wall in 6th Should Be No Surprise

Coming into Tuesday’s game against the Tigers with Justin Verlander pitching, I would be lying if I expected the White Sox to win. Verlander has been one of, if not the best pitcher in the American League all year. If I had not seen the game and was told that the Sox scored 4 runs off of him, I would have been really happy. It’s too bad that I couldn’t be happy about Tuesday night’s game.

Clutch Hits Back Buehrle’s Strong Start

The White Sox took game one of the big three game set against Detroit Monday night 6-3. Not only did the Sox win the game, but the way they won really got my attention. Coming from behind and hitting in the clutch with 2 outs is something that has been a problem for the Sox all year. They were able to overcome both of those things Monday night to back Mark Buehrle’s very strong effort.

Coming off a nice, rain shortened series sweep against the Indians, the White Sox come home for a very important 10 game home stand. The Sox open up with a 3 game series against the Tigers on Monday starting at 7:10 CT.

Sox Lose Wednesday In Classic 2011 Sox Style

July 20, 2011

The White Sox welcome John Danks back in a way only the 2011 White Sox could do: score one run and lose on a walk-off wild pitch. In Danks’ last 4 starts, including Wednesday’s start coming off the DL, Danks is 3-0 with an ERA of 0.88 holding opponents to a .215 batting average.

Adam Dunn Wins Over Fans…At Least For One Night

Sitting in the stands at Monday’s White Sox game against the Royals had a different feel for me. It was the first game that I was at where Adam Dunn had a meaningful game, and the way the crowd reacted to him was really something special.

I have never been the one to boo Dunn. While I believe that he has greatly underachieved this year, I feel that booing the man would bring no change. I am not against other people booing him though. They paid their money and if they choose to boo any player it is well within their rights as fans. I just feel like the man knows he is struggling, so why pile on more pressure for him. Anyway, after Dunn struck out in his first at bat there was the usual barrage of “boos” and screams of “You are worthless!” I just sat in my seat, shaking my head at yet another strikeout by the Sox big money DH.

Important July Against Division Crucial For White Sox

July 4, 2011

If the White Sox are going to be a contender in the American League central, then the next 19 games are going to be crucial. All of those games are against divisional opponents, and the Sox have not fared well against their own division this year up to this point.

Paul Konerko’s Personality May Have Cost Him An All-Star Appearance

July 3, 2011

All-Star selections came out today and to many people’s surprise, Paul Konerko was not on the list of American League players. In my opinion, this is the biggest snub this year as far as All-Star players go. A player that has a .317 average, 21 HR and 62 RBIs and is not represented at the mid-summer classic is a crime if you ask me. With all his amazing stats, there is one big reason why I believe Konerko was not initially chosen to be in the All-Star game in Arizona.

Everybody Loves Juan…For Now

July 2, 2011

So for the past week or so, Juan Pierre has gone from the player that everyone hates, to the player that everyone…doesn’t hate so much. The past two games that the White Sox have won have come off the game winning RBI’s off Pierre’s bat. Thursday’s game winning 2 RBI single, that should have been extra bases if the runners didn’t have to hold, was a clutch spot for Pierre. Possibly an even bigger stage for Pierre was the 2 run triple that he hit in the right field corner of Wrigley Field to give the Sox a 3 game winning streak and help take game one against the Cubs.
