Erick Threets To DL, Not Likely To Play Until 2012
Looks like the Tommy John bug is striking and White Sox pitcher Erick Threets is the latest target.
Threets was taken out of Friday’s game with an undisclosed injury at the time. It has now been discovered that he hasĀ torn his ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, an injury that is expected to require Tommy John surgery.
Threets had a great year this year prior to the injuries. He has a 0.00 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP over 12 1/3 innings in relief this year but likely will not return until 2012.
The White Sox recalled Carlos Torres to take Threet’s spot in the bullpen. Torres made only one appearance allowing 5 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings.
This is a major blow to the White Sox bullpen as we now have Chris Sale as our only left hander out of the bullpen. Matt Thornton is going to need to come back as soon as possible or the bullpen situation may get worse before it gets any better.

Erick Threets Possibly Injured, May Cause Bullpen Problems
The White Sox bullpen may have taken another blow after Erick Threets left Friday’s game against the Yankees with an undisclosed injury.
Threets, just coming off of the DL very recently, was taken out of Friday’s game before the 9th inning with an undisclosed injury. Not knowing if it is serious or not, things are ok for the moment.
If Threets needs to go onto the DL again that would mean that we only have rookie Chris Sale as a left handed pitcher in the bullpen. That could cause serious problems in the future without having multiple left handed options with Thornton on the DL right now.
More information will be announced within the next day or two so we will know how bad the injury is when that time comes.

White Sox Awarded Claim For Manny Ramirez
Well it appears as if Manny Ramirez is either staying in Los Angeles or is going to come to the Chicago White Sox.
As of roughly 10 minutes ago, the Chicago White Sox were awarded the claim on Manny Ramirez and have until Tuesday to work a deal out with the Dodgers.
No National League team made a claim for Manny Ramirez and two other American League teams made a claim for Ramirez. Sources indicate that there’s a strong probability that those other two teams were the Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays (I still think it was the Red Sox and not the Rays but I digress). The White Sox won the claim since they were the contender with the lowest win percentage.
So now the White Sox have until 1:30 PM EST on Tuesday to make a deal and trade for Manny Ramirez. The Dodgers are still only 5 games back in the wild card so no move is expected to be made soon and Ramirez also has to approve the trade as well.
So the options now are either trading Manny, pulling Manny off of waivers, or letting him go and the Dodgers get nothing in return. My gut tells me that if the Dodgers gain ground over the weekend then Manny is going to stay put. If the Dodgers fall to 6 games or more behind the wild card leader than Monday a trade will be announced and Manny will be going to the White Sox.
It’s going to be a lot of speculation from now until Tuesday but the fate of Manny Ramirez lies in the hands of the Dodgers and how much fight they have left.
